Geographic information systems (GIS) applied to the ocean and coastal zone

The present proposal of training offer intends to develop basic competences in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) oriented towards the marine sciences. GIS make it possible to visualize, process, analyze, store and serve information on the theme of the sea, in an objective, optimized and standardized way. Its applicability in spatial data management is unquestionable in all areas, including the marine environment. On the other hand, this proposal aims to develop basic skills in the exploration and representation of remote sensing data relating to the marine environment using geographic information systems (GIS). Satellite images are a relevant tool in the characterization and monitoring of various phenomena, with special importance in application to areas where in situ information is particularly complex to obtain, such as the case of the sea.
