Statistics applied to preclinical research, conception and submission of projects involving animal experimentation
Scientific research in the area of life sciences is of particular importance and it has on animal experimentation as one of its main pillars. However, the evolution of society and all concerns about animal welfare have generate some adaptation, requiring the existence of well-defined and regulated practices. Such practices must involve the training and qualification of all those involved in this process.
This course provides adequate training in the design of projects and procedures, namely, training in experimental design (types of design, repeated measures, Latin square and factorial experimental designs), choice of experimental units and randomization, knowledge and control of the effect of residual variability , sample size calculation and choice of control types, randomization, blind evaluation, independent replication and experimental units, sample size estimation, basic concepts of probability and statistics, analysis of variance of one or two factors, analysis of covariance, data transformations and non-parametric methods, multivariate analysis of variance, introduction to the main statistical analysis programs and development of experimental protocols.
This course can be attended alone. However, for those seeking FELASA Category C certification (function B of Directive 2020/63/EU), the candidates will also need to have FELASA Category B theoretical training. of Science in Laboratory Animals (function A of Directive 2020/63/EU).

Acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of statistics applied to pre-clinical investigation. FELASA Category C certification (function B of Directive 2020/63/EU) to coordinate projects with laboratory animals as long as they have Category B of FELASA for Science in Laboratory Animals - (function A)
