Modelling and simulation of the spatial dynamics of land use and land cover
OBJECTIVES:
Give participants the necessary skills to identify the conditioning factors of land use/cover changes using dynamic models (Transition Matrices, Markov Chains and Cellular Automata) and processes, and to further development scenarios, using spatial modelling techniques.
CONTENTS:
I. Fundamental theoretical knowledge on land use cover, geographic modelling and landscape ecology.
II. Spatial statistical analysis of land use cover on a national scale, for two temporal moments of reference corresponding to the situation portrayed in CORINE Land Cover (2006, 2012 and 2018) and in the Land Use cover map of Continental Portugal (COS) (2010, 2015, 2018)
III. Land use cover change dynamics - application of Transition Matrices and Markov Chains.
IV. Spatial identification of zones of land use cover changes using probabilistic maps – Cellular Automata methods.
V. Identification of conflict zones arising from urban expansion based on the intersection of current land use cover and Territorial Management Instruments.
