Laboratory animal sciences - Module I - Procedures on animals - Rodents (rats and mice)
- 2022/2023
- 2º Semestre
Scientific research in the area of life sciences is of particular importance and animal experimentation is one of its main pillars. However, the evolution of society, concerns about animal welfare mean that the use of animals for experimental and other scientific purposes has to be increasingly based on well-founded and regulated practices that involve training and capacity building of stakeholders in this process.
Thus, it is urgent that professionals, who perform several functions in the use of animals for experimental and other scientific purposes, acquire and increase the skills appropriate to these functions, established in Community legislation, and institutions accredited for this purpose offer that training.
The training will include animal experimentation with a special focus on rodents (rats and mice). This module provides adequate training for carrying out procedures (function A of Directive 2020/63/EU - FELASA B) in the respective animal species. The additional module III- conception of projects and procedures, provides adequate training for the design of projects and procedures (Function B of Directive 2020/63/EU - FELASA C).
This training aims to promote the qualification and/or requalification of people involved in animal experimentation and the training of new Investigators or Research Technicians who wish to be recognized and accredited as such by the General Directorate of Food and Veterinary Medicine.
